NICU

Although you do not want to think about complications, they do occasionally occur. You can take comfort in knowing, if the need arises, St. David’s Women’s Center of Texas is home to one of the largest, most skilled level III Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU) units in town. Recently expanded to 36 beds, our NICU is staffed around the clock with experienced nurses and doctors who put your baby’s special needs as their top priority and will communication and involve you every step of the way. Babies are often admitted within the first 24 hours after birth for a variety of reasons, including premature birth, difficulties occur during delivery, and/or signs of a problem in the first few days of life. No matter what the issue, the NICU at St. David’s Women’s Center of Texas is equipped and trained to respond.

Services Offered

  • 264 square-foot Ronald McDonald Family Room, for families with children in the hospital’s NICU, includes a small kitchen, single-serving meals, a living area, television, desk, an internet-accessible computer and a fold-out bed. Learn more to about the Ronald McDonald House Charity.
  • Level III Neonatal Intensive Care units provide the widest variety of advanced care available for newborns. Level III has the life-saving treatments and technologies to care for newborns of any severity.
  • Our NICUs feature isolettes, designed to create an environment conducive to healing and growth for the newborn. The isolettes shield each baby from noise and activity, an important feature for developing preemies.
  • 24/7 Neonatalogy Coverage
  • A neonatology-trained dietitian is available to provide nutritional consults and, because of our commitment to the benefits of breast milk, if their mother is unable to provide milk babies in the NICU are fed milk from the Mother's Milk Bank.
  • We offer suites where parents and baby spend the newborn's last night in the NICU together. These suites provide a comfortable, private transition environment, and NICU staff are just steps away to provide support and answer any questions.
