St. David’s Women’s Center of Texas’ Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) recently received a silver-level Beacon Award for Excellence from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN).

AUSTIN, Texas—St. David’s Women’s Center of Texas’ Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) recently received a silver-level Beacon Award for Excellence from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN). The Beacon Award for Excellence recognizes caregivers who successfully improve patient outcomes and perform best practices that align with AACN’s standards for a healthcare work environment.

St. David’s Women’s Center of Texas, located on the campus of St. David’s North Austin Medical Center, is the only NICU in Texas—and one of only 10 NICUs nationwide—to receive this award.

Established in 2003, the Beacon Award for Excellence offers a road map to help guide hospitals in providing exceptional care through improved outcomes and greater overall patient satisfaction. The NICU at St. David’s Women’s Center of Texas earned the silver award by meeting the standards set by the AACN that exemplify success in developing, deploying and integrating unit-based performance criteria for optimal outcomes.

“Our NICU team works diligently to meet these high standards and deliver exceptional care to our youngest, most fragile patients,” Allen Harrison, chief executive officer of St. David’s Women’s Center of Texas, said. “We are honored to receive this award and will continue to provide our community with the highest quality of care.”

The NICU at St. David’s Women’s Center of Texas is a Level III unit, and it provides life-saving treatments and technologies to care for critically ill and premature infants. The NICU features 57 beds, 24-hour neonatology and nursing coverage, speech therapists, physical therapists and lactation services.
