St. David’s North Austin Medical Center Launches First OB/GYN Hospitalist Program in Central Texas Providing Patients with 24/7 Care

Austin, TX — August 1, 2008 — While many obstetricians divide their time between office
and hospital, St. David’s North Austin Medical Center (NAMC) is introducing an
Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/Gyn) Hospitalist program, a service that allows
hospital-based doctors to focus on providing care to patients in the hospital as well as
those arriving in the emergency room. To support this initiative, NAMC is working with OB
Hospitalist Group, a national physician group that specializes in caring for the
obstetrical and gynecological needs of women.

"Hospital-based OB/Gyn physicians narrow the focus of their practice to hospital
medicine to provide women in labor with prompt and efficient, round-the-clock care,"
said Chris Swain, M.D., and President for the OB Hospitalist Group. "We work with the
community OB/Gyn physicians and will provide coverage as requested by them to
enhance continuity of care for both obstetric and gynecological patients. The program
underscores St. David’s North Austin Medical Center’s commitment to improving
women’s health and wellbeing.”

NAMC’s Chief Medical Officer, Ken Mitchell, M.D., adds, "We decided to implement the
OB Hospitalist program to add another layer of confidence for women choosing to give
birth at NAMC. Not only are we expanding to be the largest Women’s Center in
Central Texas, we are the only hospital in this area providing an OB Hospitalist program.
That's peace of mind no one else can offer."

The OB/Gyn Hospitalists provide enhanced coverage in the event of emergency
deliveries and a critical safety net to OB/Gyns in the community. The movement toward
24/7 hospitalist medicine improves access to specialist care and enhances patient
safety and outcomes. NAMC’s OB Hospitalist Program will begin August 1, 2008.
OB Hospitalist Group, LLC is a nationwide specialist in the development, staffing, and
management of hospital-based OB/Gyn practices. The board-certified OB/Gyn
physicians of the OB Hospitalist Group will provide 24/7 in-house coverage. The
continuous availability of on-site hospitalists increases communication with patients and
can improve patient and family satisfaction. The OB Hospitalists will also provide
physician services to patients admitted to NAMC who do not have an established
relationship with an OB/Gyn physician.

St. David’s North Austin Medical Center is a member of St. David’s HealthCare. Our
mission is to provide exceptional care to every patient, every day with a spirit of
warmth, friendliness and personal pride.
